{"id":562,"date":"2019-07-10T09:00:51","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T16:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amplab.ok.ubc.ca\/?p=562"},"modified":"2022-01-06T14:08:26","modified_gmt":"2022-01-06T22:08:26","slug":"lightning-talks-audio-signal-analysis-and-community-building-an-ssi-reflection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/amplab.ok.ubc.ca\/index.php\/2019\/07\/10\/lightning-talks-audio-signal-analysis-and-community-building-an-ssi-reflection\/","title":{"rendered":"Lightning Talks, Audio Signal Analysis, and Community-Building: An SSI Reflection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By Lauren St Clair<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a new member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/spokenweb.ca\/\">SpokenWeb<\/a> project at UBCO, I found attending the <a href=\"https:\/\/spokenweb.ca\/events\/the-spokenweb-sound-institute\/\">Sound Institute<\/a> to be an insightful introduction to the project at large. The Lightning Talks, in particular, were helpful in introducing the research being done at other institutions a part of the SpokenWeb project. It was inspiring to see the variety of research and projects being worked on across the SpokenWeb community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coming into the project I had been interested in audio signal analysis and sound visualization, though, I was not sure where to begin. I valued the opportunity to spend time with other students a part of SpokenWeb during the student dinner. I don\u2019t think I would have connected with all the other students that I did if not for the student dinner.
